Natural Building - expertise and services
We would love to share our fondness for natural building and inspire others to make more of such constructions!
As it's another thing that brings us closer to nature, makes a difference in our everyday living and allows us to live a bit more aligned with our values in the modern world.
We like to research areas of:
-
Lime and clay plastering
-
Wooden connections and wooden structure
-
Dry stone
-
Straw bale house
-
Natural rod constructions, such as Yurts and others.
-
Green roofs
Our latest biggest project was moving a traditional 200 old barn (“toplar”), a Slovenian cultural heritage. And now we are giving it new life on our farm.
Farm Mokovec serves as a playground of natural building - to develop new and quality ways of building.
Our build yurt
Our latest yurt, that we made with our local materials (Slovenia) with minimum budget and recycling. Since we don’t have the same wood as in the east, we used our forest wood, and made wooden connections. So there are no nails and the yurt can still be quickly put up and down.
The isolation on the floor is straw in permeable foil, for the roof woollen blankets we got from a recycling centre.
More steps are shotly in clearly explained in the video:
Adapted Kazakhstan yurt
We used the frame of a Kazakhstan yurt that we received as a gift, but added a breathable canvas made by measure (since in Khazastan they use only felt).
The isolation on the floor is straw in permeable foil, for the roof woollen blankets we got from a recycling centre since the original felt was damaged.
We took one of the original wall sections out and replaced it with a glass door and 3 glass windows – so there comes a bit more light inside than in original yurt (with no windows).
The yurt has a stove and a chimney.
We use it already for 5 years, and its great for using in winter or more rainy days when we host groups.
